More Information

Before your initial call

Please be prepared to provide your insurance information and phone number. You’ll soon get a call back from one of our clinicians who will ask you a few questions.

Helpful information to share with us

In order to understand what you need, our clinician will ask you a few questions, such as:

  • What’s bothering you? For example, are you worried or feeling down?

  • Are these feelings new or have they been going on for a while?

  • How is your mood or behavior affecting your life at home or at work?

  • Are there any physical/medical issues that may be affecting your mood?

After this conversation, they will then make an appointment for a more detailed assessment either in our office or via teletherapy.

Please keep in mind

Fifth Avenue Therapy is not a licensed substance abuse treatment provider. If you believe that substance abuse is your major issue, please contact the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-662-4357 or the New York Office of Addiction Services at 1-877-8-HOPENY.

In-Person or
Remote?

Fifth Avenue Therapy offers services both in person in our office which is located just off Union Square, or via teleconference. At the beginning of your treatment you’ll be asked your preference for in-person sessions or teletherapy. Please keep in mind that in the interest of continuity of treatment, we cannot switch back and forth between in-office sessions and those conducted remotely.

Of course, exceptions can be made for illness or other reasons. We encourage clients to attend in person if possible. Clients and therapists alike have told us that the experience feels more productive when both members of the conversation share the same space.

payment options

Insurance

Fifth Avenue Therapy accepts a number of insurance plans. When you call us, we’ll be able to check your eligibility and tell you about copays, deductibles, etc. For clients who prefer to pay out-of-pocket, we work on a sliding scale based on income.

Weekly Psychotherapy

HOW WE WORK

It’s important to remember that therapy has a cumulative effect. Each session builds on the gains that have occurred in meetings before it. Our model is once per week psychotherapy sessions. This is a proven effective method of accomplishing goals, and requires commitment from the client.

We do not charge for missed or cancelled sessions, but your therapist will ask you to reschedule your missed session. Please also try to give your therapist as much notice as possible if you need to skip a meeting. Our emphasis on consistency is part of our dedication to your success in treatment.
